AND THE NUMBER GROWS DAY BY DAY. SINCE ITS BEGINNING, ABOUT 160 CHILDREN HAVE BEEN HELPED.
In 2010, Leonidas Ruaro learned about the impact that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was making in his life. It was precisely that moment when he felt in a different position than many friends who were lagging behind in a socioeconomic context.
Characterized by his great humility and happiness, he felt great concern for the social problems developing in his beloved Jacó, Costa Rica. He also felt that the sport he practiced as a hobby (Jiu Jitsu) and language studies pushed him away from the problem.
Thus he decided to share his experience with low-income children, who at that time were becoming victims of the situation in which they were living.
Just like that, in an academy with walls made of zinc cans, leaks, scorpions, bugs and other dangers but with the energy fed by the happiness of many children, Pura Vida Fighting Kids was born.
With almost a decade of hard work, falling and rising, the foundation has developed its structure. Using Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as a tool to approach children and providing them the necessary support. The collaborators' work is just as important as the environment they operate in, their school. This is why we want to replicate our academy and our model to help many children worldwide who can benefit from Pura Vida Fighting For Kids.
RESPECT & DISCIPLINE
Individual and group competition taught by their instructor becomes important since both ways of thinking are key to advancing in sports.
Humans evolve in social circles and what better way to develop a healthy circle where everyone shares respect, health, and discipline.
CONFIDENCE & SELF-DEFENSE
The security that sport generates when knowing how to defend oneself creates confidence to avoid many conflicts in advance. And if they cannot be avoided, these problems are solved with great calm and wisdom.
In life we have to do what we enjoy and smile as much as possible. Children have found a way to play, smile and enjoy all classes every day.
Over the years, our focus has been to show our children's' to face life through courage, their smile and desire. We firmly believe that showing this reality can have a positive impact on people who want to follow this example.
We have received support from media which has managed to understand this message by developing press releases supporting the correct message.
